The Trust Project What is this? MOORHEAD — Jed Klang moved to the brink of a Concordia single-season record Saturday afternoon. The senior caught two touchdowns passes to help fuel a 42-16 victory against Macalester in MIAC football at Jake Christiansen Stadium. ADVERTISEMENT That gave the 6-foot-3, 215-pound receiver 11 touchdown catches through nine games, one shy of the program's single-season record. “I’m very humbled by it," said Klang, from Baxter, Minnesota. “I’ve got to give all the credit to my team, because all the touchdowns, it’s a team effort.” The Cobbers (7-2, 6-2 MIAC) have one game remaining in the regular season. Coincidentally, head coach Terry Horan holds the Concordia single-season record with 12 TD catches in 1986. “He’s been doing great things all season for us," Horan said. Ella Daniels / Concordia Sports Information Klang is tied for No. 2 on the single-season list with Tory Langemo (1996) and Dawson Schaffer (2023) who both had 11 touchdown catches in a season. Horan had 10 TD catches in 1987 and 1988. That makes Klang only the fourth player in program history with double-digit TD catches in a season. “He’s a guy as a quarterback you can trust," said Cobbers quarterback Nick Walter. “He’s going to make something happen for you.” Klang caught both his TD passes against Macalester in the third quarter, helping the Cobbers separate from the Scots. He hauled in a 54-yard scoring pass from Walter for a 35-16 lead with 1 minute, 18 seconds to play in the third quarter. Early in that quarter, Klang had a 4-yard TD reception. ADVERTISEMENT Klang got injured in the season-opener last season and that sidelined him for the remainder of that campaign. That makes his production this fall sweeter. “It’s truly special," Klang said. Ella Daniels / Concordia Sports Information Walter completed 15 of 18 passes for 288 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 27 yards and a TD on nine attempts. Klang finished with four catches for 94 yards, including his two scores. “We have one of the best receiving corps in the country, for sure in the MIAC," Klang said. “All of our guys can make plays.” Senior receiver Davion Henderson caught a 24-yard TD pass to give the Cobbers a 7-0 lead with 12:10 remaining in the first quarter. The Cobbers later bolted into the lead for good, after receiver Ron Gallegos' 57-yard touchdown reception to make it 14-10 with 2:27 to play in the first half. "We’ve got guys who can make something happen at any time," Walter said. “Something as simple as a 5-yard pass can turn into a 50-yard gain, a 50-yard touchdown at any moment.” More related coverage No. 16 Bethel bounces Cobbers Oct 31 Johnson's 3 TDs, pop pass spark Kindred into ND Division 2A state title game 20h ago Bison women absorb injury to 3rd key player amidst 'emotional week' 1d ago Walter scored on an 11-yard TD run for a 21-10 lead with 11:27 remaining in the third quarter. Walter then tossed a 4-yard touchdown pass to Jed Klang for a 28-10 lead with 9:11 to play in the third, fueling a 21-point quarter. ADVERTISEMENT The Cobbers rebounded from a 34-28 loss at No. 16-ranked Bethel last weekend. That likely ended Concordia's NCAA Division III playoff hopes, but Walter isn't deterred. “We kind of told ourselves, no matter how small the odds are, we like our odds," Walter said.
